When your life is broken finding the right help can make all the difference. Restoring the Soul helps couples and individuals put the pieces back together.
We invite you to take a moment and learn why Restoring the Soul is truly unique among intensive counseling programs. And feel free to contact us with your questions. We’d consider it a privilege to talk with you.
Trauma Informed Clinical Expertise
Restoring the Soul counselors are licensed therapists and clinically grounded in the latest research and treatment for addictions, marital counseling, and trauma–including EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization & Reprocessing). As a team we are committed to ongoing training and professional development. Having said that, you won’t find any of us wearing white lab coats (or ties for that matter) as our office environment is informal and casual.
Our Founder & Clinical Director, Michael John Cusick, is a sought after speaker, teacher, and internationally recognized expert on the healing of sexual brokenness, spiritual formation, addiction, and soul care. Since 1994, Michael has trained graduate counseling and seminary students in a variety of settings, including serving as full-time Assistant Professor of Counseling at Colorado Christian University (1996-2001), then as an adjunct professor at Denver Seminary (2001-Present).
Integrated Soul Care Approach
At Restoring the Soul we understand that you were created for authentic spirituality. That’s why everything we do is through the lens of the soul–your inner life and the most real part of who you are. In fact, we believe soul care is essential in order to address core issues and get to the the root level of your concerns. So, from the time of first contact until the time you leave, our counselors are asking the question, “What is God up to in this person’s life and how do we join in on what God is already doing?”
Four Streams Ministry Perspective
In addition to clinical expertise and an integrated soul care approach, we take seriously the life and ministry of Jesus as a model for healing the inner life of mind, will, emotions, and spirit. In doing so we integrate the Four Streams of Healing that include: counseling, deep discipleship, spiritual warfare, and inner healing. It’s this rare combination of healing elements which so often results in life changing breakthrough. To learn more about The Four Streams you can listen here to Michael’s interview with John Eldredge and Craig McConnell of Ransomed Heart Ministries.
Jesus Shaped Spirituality
Our Jesus Shaped Spirituality approach is comprised of four separate elements that when brought together become a lens or paradigm for how we think about life, ministry, and transformation:
(1) Jesus–letting Jesus drive our our understanding of God, and not any number of competing versions of modern Christianity which bind can people to the trap of religious performance.
(2) Shape–There is a pattern and rhythm of living and walking with God that is a pattern of life to death to new life, or being oriented to becoming disoriented, to being reoriented (Palm Sunday to Good Friday to Easter Sunday). This implies that brokenness, death, failure, etc. are part of God’s pattern of bringing forth the new—unless a seed falls into the ground and dies…..
(3) Spirituality–Not a system of belief, but a way of being that emerges from the inside out. Spirituality is cultivated as we connect the reality of who God really is with who we really are—connecting the horizontal beam (our lives on earth) of the cross to the vertical beam of the cross (God’s true heart revealed in Jesus).
(4) Restoration—saving us for wholeness and wholeheartedness, and not just saving us so that we can go to heaven. In the words of N.T. Wright, “The work of salvation, in its full sense, is about whole human beings, not merely souls; about the present, not simply the future; and about what God does through us, not merely what God does in and for us”
Counselors That Are Wounded Healers
Restoring the Soul counselors have all walked through dark valleys and come out on the other side knowing the joy of healing, freedom, and restoration. Although each of our stories is unique, the the power behind every intensive is that our counselors “lead with a limp,” live from their brokenness, and walk deeply with God. We’d like to think this is the “secret sauce” behind the power and impact of Restoring the Soul intensive counseling. But we’ll let you decide.
