Healing for Christian Leaders
What is a Soul Care Intensive?
When someone shows up for a soul care intensive they are usually saying to themselves, ‘I’m ready to do life differently.’
–Restoring the Soul Board Member
A soul care intensive blends counseling, spiritual direction, focused biblical teaching, and healing prayer in a way that addresses barriers to intimacy with God and others. Soul care intensives connect the most difficult realities of life and living with the profound realities of the gospel of Jesus Christ.
The unique, in depth format of a soul care intensive allows couples and individuals to meet in half day blocks over two weeks in order to focus on critical life issues and gain perspective toward what truly matters. Extended time away from everyday pressures and responsibilities creates an environment to significantly address issues in a short amount of time. Intensive focus creates the opportunity to move forward with practical direction, a renewed sense of purpose, and substantial healing of underlying issues of the heart.
Each intensive is designed with ample time to explore personal and relational brokenness while emphasizing a solid biblical path toward wholeness in Christ. Participants meet approximately 3 hours per day in sessions tailored to address individual needs. The balance of the time is often spent in independent study, worship and prayer, or in simply enjoying God’s beautiful creation in the Rocky Mountains.
Who should attend a soul care intensive?
Soul care intensives are designed specifically for pastors, church and parachurch workers, and missionaries. However, men and women from a variety of backgrounds have taken advantage of the intensive format, including physicians, businesspersons, and laypersons wanting to experience transformation in their soul. Intensives are not intended as a substitute for inpatient treatment and potential applicants are required to complete a phone interview.
Soul Care Intensives have been a life changing venue for over five hundred couples and individuals. Attendees have included Christian leaders from a broad range of ministries and organizations from as far away as Africa, Europe, Asia, South America, the Middle East, and from around the US and Canada.
What types of issues and concerns are addressed?
Some participate in an intensive because something is undeniably broken. Issues addressed have included the need for healing from adultery, sexual addiction, or same sex attractions; difficulties with intimacy; burnout and exhaustion from ministry; spiritual abuse or feelings of disillusionment.
Others participate simply because they have a sense that God has more in store for their lives. Their hearts are hungry and thirsty for “more and better life than they ever dreamed of” (John 10:10, The Message). Some of these issues have included exploring one’s own life story and calling, living from the heart, developing a greater capacity to hear the voice of God, and deepening the life of prayer.
What specific programs are offered?
Restoring the Soul offers several formats to meet your specific needs. One and two week intensives are available for couples and individuals. Spiritual Direction intensives are designed specifically for individuals who may not have a pressing crisis or issue, but who nonetheless desire to deepen intimacy with God and others.
One Week Intensive
This format involves meeting 3 hours per day, Monday through Friday. The format of one week is designed for couples or individuals seeking soul care that is proactive and preventive, not nessecarily dealing with a current crisis or significant brokenness.
Two Week Intensive
This format also involves meeting 3 hours per day, Monday through Friday. The two week format is designed for couples or individuals who are dealing with a significant personal or marital difficulty or crisis.
Spiritual Direction Intensives
This format is available on a limited basis. The Spiritual Direction Intensive is a twelve hour format from Wednesday afternoon through Friday morning. Specifically designed for those seeking traditional spiritual direction and/or alumni of intensive programs. All intensives are are held in Denver, Colorado-the gateway to the Rocky Mountains-where breathtaking scenery and majestic mountains abound.
How are intensives with Restoring the Soul unique?
- We uniquely integrate the four streams of healing demonstrated by Jesus: counsel, discipleship, warfare, and healing. We personally tailor every soul care intensive to your unique situation–no cookie cutter programs and no hoops to jump through.
- We quickly foster an atmosphere of safety and grace that facilitates deep change, healing, and renewal.
- We unequivocally honor and respect your need for privacy as a Christian leader–no group sessions with other couples or individuals.
- We pro-actively offer follow-up soul care over the phone or internet to help you maintain the gains you have made (additional charges on a per session basis apply).
Where do I stay while in Denver?
Restoring the Soul partners with friends of the ministry who provide “host homes” at no charge to couples and individuals during the intensive (please note: at the present time host homes are available on an extremely limited basis). Should a host home be available, the need for privacy and personal space are respected. All meals are the responsibility of the attendee.
When host homes are not available Restoring the Soul works with a number of hotels near our ministry center which offer discounted rates. All hotel fees are the responsibility of the attendee and are not included in the soul care intensive fee.

What are the fees for an intensive?
At Restoring the Soul we have a primary committment to equipping and caring for Christian leaders. As space is available, however, we occasionally work with couples and individuals who are not serving in traditional “full-time ministry.” As a result we offer two separate fee schedules–a discounted rate for those in ministry (fees are subsidized through donor support), and a standard rate for those working in other settings. We are glad to make our fee schedules available upon request by contacting denise@restoringthesoul.com or by phoning our offices at 303.932.9777.
*Limited partial scholarships are available primarily for those in full-time ministry who have no income and no organization providing financial assistance. Restoring the Soul is committed to providing services to qualified leaders in need regardless of their ability to pay. Please e-mail us at info@restoringthesoul.com for more details.
