Self-assessment for intensive counseling
Is intensive counseling the best next step for you?
We know it may feel overwhelming to consider booking an intensive. While there’s no perfect way to figure out whether or not an intensive is right for you, there may be some indicators to help you decide. Use the following list of experiences as a tool to help you evaluate where you’re at.
On average, our intensive counseling alumni have experienced three or more of the following things:
- I’ve been referred by a therapist or mental health professional who has had clients participate in intensive counseling programs with Restoring the Soul.
- I have been referred by a ministry, non-profit, or NGO who has sent staff to intensive counseling programs with Restoring the Soul.
- I have had friends or family members participate in intensive counseling programs with Restoring the Soul.
- I live in the U.S. or Canada, but my area has no substantial Christian counseling resources.I have exhausted all known Christian counseling resources where I live.
- I am in counseling (or have recently been in counseling) and am not experiencing the progress or healing I had hoped for.
- I have been told by a mental health professional or other professional caregiver that I need more help or treatment than what is offered in traditional weekly counseling sessions.
- I am in counseling and making progress, but I feel that with intense focus and the right environment, I may experience an important breakthrough.
- I have been told by my spouse or a family member that I need more help than I’m getting.
- I have been told by my spouse (or I have told my spouse) that without intensive counseling, our marriage is not going to make it.
- My marriage is on the brink of demise, and intensive counseling is the only thing we haven’t tried.
- I have a behavioral addiction (not substances) and am seeking treatment options which are more than traditional counseling, but less than inpatient hospitalization.
- I / my spouse and I have invested a great deal of time and money in couples or individual counseling but still struggle profoundly.
- I have a specific window of time coming up, during which I want to press in and dig deeper into my personal issues and emotional / spiritual growth.
- I believe that extended time away from everyday pressures and responsibilities will create an environment for me to get the help I need.
- I am a leader in my community and wish to remain anonymous and private as I pursue healing of individual or marriage issues.
- I have experienced a major life crisis and need to get away from my normal routines and community while remaining in a supportive environment.
- I recently lost my job / career / ministry due to personal issues and need a place to process all that has happened.
- I am beginning or in the midst of a professional sabbatical and want to plan a focused time for personal and spiritual growth.
